Compare blue grey compostable plates for a baby shower: hexagonal sizes, a six-person round pack, and simple decision rules for portions and waste.
Quick answer
For a small baby shower, start with the Blue Grey Round Vert Decor Compostable 6 Person Party Pack and add the 21cm hexagonal plates for cake or shared sides. Choose the 16cm hexagonal plates instead when you only need small dessert or snack portions.
Why the plate size changes your plan more than the colour
The blue grey range mixes two shapes: round petal plates in the six-person pack and hexagonal plates sold separately. Shape is mostly visual; size is what decides how many plates you actually need and whether guests can carry a full meal on one plate.
The hexagonal plates come in 21cm x 18cm and 16cm x 14cm versions, both in packs of six. The larger size suits a main course or a slice of cake with room to spare, while the smaller size keeps dessert and snack service tidy without encouraging guests to pile on a full meal.
What the six-person pack covers, and what it does not
The round six-person party pack bundles plates, bowls, cups and napkins in matching blue grey, which removes the guesswork of matching pieces across separate orders. It is sized for six guests, so it works best as a base for a small shower or as a top-up for a larger one.
It does not include cutlery or a table cover, and it does not include the hexagonal plates. If your shower has more than six guests, or you want hexagonal plates for cake, plan those as separate additions rather than assuming the pack scales up.
The honest trade-off with compostable paper plates
These plates are made mostly from sugar cane and bamboo and contain no plastic, so they are designed to be composted rather than reused wash after wash. That makes them a poor fit if you want plates you can rinse and keep for a second party.
They are also lighter and less rigid than reusable dinnerware, so they suit buffet-style service and cake rather than heavy, sauce-rich dishes. If your menu is very wet or very heavy, choose sturdier serveware for those items and keep the paper plates for the rest.
Decision rules for your baby shower plates
- Guest count under six: Buy the six-person round party pack as your base. It covers plates, bowls, cups and napkins in one matching set, so you are not matching colours across separate orders. Check the guest list before adding extra plates; the pack already covers six.
- Guest count over six: Use the six-person pack for the core tableware, then add packs of the 21cm hexagonal plates for extra guests or for cake service. Count one large plate per guest plus a few spares. Order spares in multiples of six, since both hexagonal sizes come in packs of six.
- Menu is cake and light bites only: Choose the 16cm hexagonal plates. They hold a slice of cake or a few snacks without inviting a full meal, and they keep the table looking tidy. Small plates only work if you are not serving a main course.
- Menu includes a main course: Choose the 21cm hexagonal plates for the main and keep the smaller size, if you buy it, for dessert. Do not expect one small plate to carry both courses comfortably. Two plate sizes are easier than asking guests to balance a main and dessert on one plate.
- You want plates to reuse: Skip compostable paper plates and choose reusable dinnerware instead. These plates are designed to be composted after use, not washed and kept. Decide on reuse versus compost before you order, because it changes the whole tableware list.
